Bakero (footballer)
José Mari Bakero Escudero (born February 11, 1963) is a Spanish retired professional footballer and manager.
Bakero primarily played as an attacking midfielder. He is best known for his successful spell with FC Barcelona under manager Johan Cruyff during the club's "Dream Team" era in the early 1990s. During this period, Barcelona won four consecutive La Liga titles (1991–1994) and the European Cup in 1992.
Prior to his Barcelona career, Bakero played for Real Sociedad, where he also won La Liga titles in 1981 and 1982. He was a key player for both clubs, known for his tactical intelligence, work rate, and leadership qualities.
Bakero also represented the Spanish national team, earning over 30 caps. He participated in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
Following his playing career, Bakero transitioned into coaching and management. He has held various roles, including coach of Real Sociedad B, technical director at Málaga CF, and coach of Polonia Warsaw and Lech Poznań, among others. He also served as a scout for FC Barcelona.
