Amer (river)

The Amer is a distributary of the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta in the Netherlands. It branches off from the Nieuwe Merwede near Lage Zwaluwe and flows westwards to the Hollands Diep.

The Amer is an important waterway for shipping, connecting the port of Rotterdam with the inland areas of the Netherlands and Belgium. Several power plants and industrial facilities are located along its banks, utilizing its water for cooling and transport.

The name "Amer" is believed to derive from the older name "Ambre", possibly related to the presence of amber in the area in the past.
