Janeite
A Janeite is an ardent and devoted admirer of the works of Jane Austen. The term encompasses individuals who possess a deep appreciation for Austen's novels, her life, and the historical period in which she wrote (the late Georgian and Regency eras). Janeites often engage in activities such as reading and rereading her novels, participating in Austen-related discussions and online communities, attending literary festivals and conferences dedicated to her work, writing fan fiction, dressing in Regency-era clothing, and visiting sites associated with Austen's life and novels, such as Chawton Cottage and Bath. The term can also sometimes be used more broadly to describe someone with a strong interest in Regency-era history, culture, and fashion, even if their primary focus is not solely on Jane Austen.
The term "Janeite" is generally used affectionately, although it can sometimes carry a slightly ironic or self-deprecating connotation, acknowledging the perceived intensity of some fans' devotion. The rise in popularity of Jane Austen's novels, especially since the late 20th century, has led to a significant increase in the number of self-identified Janeites worldwide.
