Altsys

Altsys Corporation was a software company specializing in font editing and graphic design software. Founded in 1984, it was best known for developing Fontographer, a pioneering font editor for Macintosh. Fontographer allowed designers to create and modify digital fonts, playing a significant role in the early adoption of desktop publishing. Altsys also created FreeHand, a vector graphics editor that competed with Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Systems acquired Altsys in 1995. After the acquisition, Adobe continued to develop FreeHand for several years before eventually discontinuing it. Fontographer was later acquired by FontLab Ltd.
