Alfred Davies (Carmarthen MP)
Alfred Davies (10 July 1848 – 15 December 1921) was a Welsh Liberal Party politician and businessman. He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Carmarthen Boroughs from 1900 to 1910.
Davies was born in Carmarthen, the son of Ebenezer Davies, a draper. He was educated locally and became a successful businessman, involved in shipping and the tinplate industry. He held directorships in various companies and served as a Justice of the Peace (JP) for Carmarthenshire.
In 1900, Davies was elected as the Liberal MP for Carmarthen Boroughs, succeeding Sir John Jones Jenkins. He retained the seat in the 1906 general election. In Parliament, he generally supported Liberal policies, including free trade, Welsh disestablishment, and land reform. He was known as a relatively quiet but diligent MP.
Davies lost his seat in the January 1910 general election to John Lloyd Morgan, a Liberal candidate who ran on a platform of greater radicalism. He did not stand for Parliament again.
Alfred Davies died in December 1921.
