John Nelson (New Zealand cricketer)
John Nelson (born 29 September 1953) is a former New Zealand cricketer who played first-class cricket for Central Districts and Wellington. He was a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium-pace bowler.
Nelson made his first-class debut for Central Districts in the 1975/76 season and played for them until the 1982/83 season. He then moved to Wellington, where he played from the 1983/84 season until the 1986/87 season.
In his first-class career, Nelson played 74 matches, scoring 2,679 runs at an average of 23.50, with a highest score of 118. He also took 2 wickets at an average of 81.00. He was known for his solid defensive technique and ability to occupy the crease.
While not a particularly high-profile player, Nelson was a consistent performer at the domestic level in New Zealand and contributed to his teams' efforts.
