Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter (novel)

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter is a dark fantasy horror novel written by Seth Grahame-Smith and published in 2010 by Grand Central Publishing. The novel presents an alternate history of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, portraying him as secretly battling vampires throughout his life, motivated by the death of his mother at the hands of one of them.

The story blends biographical details of Lincoln's life with fictional accounts of his vampire hunting activities. It traces his evolution from a young man seeking revenge to a skilled vampire slayer and, ultimately, a leader fighting to preserve the Union against a Confederate conspiracy deeply entwined with vampirism.

Grahame-Smith employs a narrative style that mimics historical biographies, incorporating fake primary source materials, such as excerpts from Lincoln's "secret journal," to enhance the illusion of historical authenticity. The novel explores themes of good versus evil, revenge, prejudice, and the burden of leadership, all within the context of a supernatural battle.

The novel was adapted into a 2012 film of the same name. While the film retained the core concept of Lincoln as a vampire hunter, it differed from the novel in some plot points and characterizations.
