Skylloura
Skylloura (Greek: Σκυλλούρα) is a small village located in the Nicosia District of Cyprus. It is situated approximately 12 kilometers west of Nicosia, near the Green Line which divides the island.
Historically, Skylloura has been a mixed village, inhabited by both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. Following the intercommunal violence of the 1960s and particularly after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, the village was occupied by Turkish forces. Consequently, the Greek Cypriot population was displaced.
Currently, Skylloura is under the de facto control of Northern Cyprus. The original Greek Cypriot inhabitants are prevented from returning to their homes. The village now primarily consists of Turkish Cypriots, some of whom were displaced from other areas of the island.
The economy of Skylloura is largely based on agriculture, with citrus fruits and other crops being cultivated in the surrounding area. The village is also known for its traditional Cypriot architecture. The status of Skylloura remains a sensitive issue within the context of the Cyprus dispute.
