Mount Davies (South Australia)

Mount Davies is the highest point in South Australia, with an elevation of 1,180 metres (3,871 feet) above sea level. It is located in the far northwest corner of the state, within the remote and arid Musgrave Ranges. The mountain is situated on Aboriginal freehold land, specifically within the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands.

Access to Mount Davies is restricted, requiring permission from the APY Executive. There are no established roads to the summit, and reaching the area typically involves extensive travel by four-wheel drive vehicles across challenging terrain.

The mountain is of cultural significance to the local Aboriginal people, and its environment is characterized by sparse vegetation adapted to the harsh desert conditions. Rainfall is infrequent and temperatures can fluctuate dramatically. The surrounding landscape is dominated by rocky outcrops, sandy plains, and spinifex grasslands.

While not a popular tourist destination due to its remoteness and access restrictions, Mount Davies represents a significant geographical landmark within South Australia.
