Libelle (microcar)

The Libelle was a German microcar produced by Messerschmitt AG in Regensburg from 1956 to 1957. It was designed by Fritz Fend, who had previously designed the Messerschmitt Kabinenroller KR175 and KR200. Unlike the tandem seating arrangement of the Kabinenrollers, the Libelle featured side-by-side seating for two adults.

The Libelle was powered by a Sachs 191 cc two-stroke engine, producing approximately 10 horsepower. It was a three-wheeled vehicle, with a single wheel at the rear. Production was relatively limited; estimates suggest that only around 275-300 Libelles were ever manufactured before production ceased. The higher price compared to its Messerschmitt Kabinenroller siblings, and perhaps a less distinctive design, may have contributed to its relatively short production run. Today, the Libelle is a rare and sought-after collector's item.
