Edison Bridge (Ohio)

The Edison Bridge is a cantilever bridge spanning the Sandusky Bay in Ohio, connecting the city of Sandusky in Erie County with the Marblehead Peninsula in Ottawa County. It carries U.S. Route 6. The bridge replaced an earlier swing bridge at the same location that was insufficient for increasing traffic demands.

Construction on the current bridge began in 1954 and it was opened to traffic in 1956. The bridge is named in honor of Thomas Alva Edison, who was born in nearby Milan, Ohio. The bridge is a vital transportation link for the region, facilitating travel and commerce between the mainland and the popular tourist destinations on the Marblehead Peninsula, including Cedar Point and the Lake Erie islands.

The bridge has undergone several maintenance and repair projects throughout its lifespan to ensure its structural integrity and safety.
