Aberdeen North (Scottish Parliament constituency)

Aberdeen North is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood) covering a northern portion of the city of Aberdeen. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is also one of ten constituencies in the North East Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.

The constituency was created at the same time as the Scottish Parliament, in 1999, with the name and boundaries largely derived from the former Westminster constituency of the same name. The current boundaries have been modified slightly since its creation, but the general area covered remains consistent.

The constituency boundaries include areas such as Bridge of Don, Danestone, Dyce, Grandholm, Hilton, Kingswells, Mastrick, Mugiemoss, Northfield, Old Aberdeen, Persley, Riverbank, Rosemount, Seaton, Sheddocksley, and Tillydrone. It is generally considered to be a mixed urban constituency, with a variety of housing types and socioeconomic conditions present.

Historically, Aberdeen North has been a key battleground between the Scottish Labour Party and the Scottish National Party (SNP). Both parties have held the seat at different times.

The MSP for Aberdeen North is responsible for representing the interests of their constituents within the Scottish Parliament, scrutinising the actions of the Scottish Government, and voting on legislation. They also typically hold constituency surgeries to allow constituents to raise concerns and seek assistance.
