APB (band)
APB were a Scottish post-punk band formed in Aberdeen in 1979. The original lineup consisted of Iain Slater (vocals), Glenn Roberts (guitar), Calum Orr (bass guitar), and Chris Gordon (drums). They were known for their angular guitar riffs, funk-influenced rhythms, and socially conscious lyrics that often tackled themes of political disillusionment and urban decay.
APB released a series of singles and EPs on independent labels during the early 1980s, including "Chain Reaction," "One Step Forward," and "Something to Believe In." These releases garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated following within the post-punk scene.
Their debut album, Something to Believe In, was released in 1982. While not a commercial success, it further solidified their reputation as an innovative and intelligent band. The album showcased their diverse musical influences, blending elements of punk, funk, and new wave.
Despite their critical acclaim, APB struggled to achieve mainstream recognition and ultimately disbanded in the mid-1980s. However, their music has continued to be appreciated by enthusiasts of the post-punk genre, and their records are sought after by collectors. APB are often cited as an influence by later bands within the alternative music scene. Their contribution to the Scottish post-punk movement remains significant.
