Civic Stadium (Eugene, Oregon)
Civic Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium located in Eugene, Oregon. It served as the home field for the University of Oregon Ducks football team from 1919 to 1966, as well as hosting numerous other events throughout its history. The stadium was notable for its relatively modest capacity compared to modern college football venues, and its iconic status within the history of Oregon athletics.
The stadium underwent several renovations and expansions throughout its years of operation, reflecting the evolving needs of the university and the community. Its initial design was much simpler than the larger stadiums that would be constructed in later decades. While it lacked many of the amenities of newer facilities, its location and history made it a cherished landmark.
Following its closure as the primary home of the Ducks football team, Civic Stadium was utilized for a variety of purposes. These uses included high school football games, community events, and various other gatherings. However, the stadium eventually fell into disrepair and was ultimately demolished. The site is now largely repurposed. The exact date of demolition requires further research, however some sources indicate demolition occurred in the early 2000's.
While the specific details of its construction, architectural style, and seating capacity vary across different sources, Civic Stadium holds a significant place in the history of both the University of Oregon and the city of Eugene. Further research is needed to definitively clarify some of the less readily available details of its history.
