116th Battalion (Ontario County), CEF

The 116th Battalion (Ontario County), CEF was a unit of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War. Authorized on December 22, 1915, it began recruiting in Ontario County, Ontario. The battalion sailed to Great Britain on July 23, 1916, aboard the Olympic.

Upon arrival in England, the 116th Battalion was absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion on July 28, 1916. Consequently, the battalion was disbanded on November 11, 1916.

The 116th Battalion had one Officer Commanding: Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel Sharpe, MP, who was appointed on May 13, 1916.

The perpetuation of the 116th Battalion was assigned to the Ontario Regiment.
