People's Party (Serbia, 2008)
The People's Party (Serbian: Народна странка, Narodna stranka) was a political party in Serbia founded in 2008. It was led by Maja Gojković, former mayor of Novi Sad. The party was considered right-of-center and advocated for Serbian national interests, economic development, and strengthening ties with Russia.
The party was formed after Gojković split from the Serbian Radical Party (SRS) following disagreements over party leadership and direction after the 2008 Serbian presidential election. Gojković and her supporters felt that the SRS under Vojislav Šešelj was becoming increasingly isolated and radical.
The People's Party participated in several elections, achieving modest results. It generally aligned itself with other nationalist and conservative parties. Its influence remained largely centered in Novi Sad and Vojvodina.
In 2010, the People's Party merged into the United Regions of Serbia (URS), a coalition of regional parties led by Mlađan Dinkić. The People's Party effectively ceased to exist as a separate entity after this merger. Maja Gojković continued her political career within the URS.
