Xixi River (Xiamen)
The Xixi River (西溪) is a river located in Xiamen, Fujian Province, China. It originates from the Daiyun Mountain range and flows generally southeast through the urban districts of Xiamen, eventually emptying into the Jiulong River estuary.
The river plays a significant role in the local ecosystem, providing water for irrigation and supporting a variety of flora and fauna. It is also a source of water for industrial and domestic use in the Xiamen area.
Efforts have been made in recent years to improve the water quality of the Xixi River due to increasing urbanization and industrial development. These efforts include pollution control measures, dredging, and the restoration of riparian habitats. The Xixi River Wetland Park, established along a section of the river, aims to protect and showcase the river's ecological value and provide recreational opportunities for the public. The river is an important part of Xiamen's environmental landscape and efforts continue to balance development with environmental preservation along its course.
