Wyrmspan (board game)
Wyrmspan is a engine-building board game designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games in 2024. It is considered a follow-up to the popular game Wingspan, sharing similar mechanics and themes but with a focus on dragons instead of birds.
In Wyrmspan, players attract dragons to their dragon sanctuaries, excavating spaces and building habitats to house them. The game involves placing dragons in various caverns, each offering different benefits that can trigger chain reactions to generate resources, advance on tracks, and score points.
Players manage resources such as milk, amber, crystals, meat, and gold, which are used to lure dragons, build habitats, and activate dragon abilities. The game features different dragon species, each with unique powers and scoring conditions.
The core gameplay revolves around strategically placing dragons in the players' caves to maximize efficiency and gain points. The game concludes after a set number of rounds, and the player with the most points wins. Wyrmspan includes elements of resource management, tableau building, and strategic planning.
