William Taylor (civil servant)

William Taylor is an American diplomat and civil servant known for his extensive experience in U.S. foreign policy, particularly in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. He has served in various roles under both Republican and Democratic administrations, demonstrating his commitment to non-partisan public service.

Taylor's career includes serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine on two separate occasions, first from 2006 to 2009 and then again as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim from 2019 to 2020. During his second tenure in Kyiv, he was appointed following the removal of Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch and played a key role in U.S. relations with Ukraine during a period of significant political turmoil and the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Prior to his ambassadorships, Taylor held positions at the U.S. Department of State, the National Security Council, and the U.S. mission to NATO. He also worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), where he oversaw assistance programs in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
