William Ritter (writer)
William Ritter (born 1974) is an American author best known for his Jackaby series, a young adult paranormal mystery series.
Ritter was born in Pennsylvania and graduated from Shippensburg University. He taught high school English and theatre for many years before becoming a full-time writer.
His Jackaby series, beginning with Jackaby in 2014, follows the adventures of Abigail Rook, a young Englishwoman who becomes the assistant to R.F. Jackaby, an eccentric detective of the supernatural in 1890s New England. The series blends elements of mystery, fantasy, and historical fiction.
Other works by Ritter include the middle grade novel The Oddmire, Book 1: Changeling, as well as its sequels. He is also the author of the standalone young adult novel Beastly Bones.
Ritter's writing is noted for its clever plotting, witty dialogue, and well-developed characters. His works have received positive reviews and have been recognized with various awards and nominations.
