Anlong (meteorite)

Anlong is a meteorite that fell in Anlong County, Guizhou Province, China. It is classified as an H5 ordinary chondrite.

The fall occurred on October 19, 1971, at approximately 17:00 local time. Observers reported a bright fireball accompanied by sonic booms. A single stone weighing approximately 22.5 kilograms was recovered.

The Anlong meteorite is composed primarily of chondrules, small, spherical silicate structures that are characteristic of chondritic meteorites. It contains olivine and pyroxene as major minerals, with minor amounts of metallic iron-nickel and troilite (iron sulfide). The H5 classification indicates that the meteorite experienced moderate thermal metamorphism on its parent asteroid. It also implies a moderate abundance of metallic iron relative to other H chondrites.

Studies of the Anlong meteorite have contributed to a better understanding of the composition and origin of asteroids in the early solar system and the processes that affected them. Specimens of the meteorite are held in various meteorite collections around the world for scientific study.
