William Bakewell (politician)

William Bakewell (1791 – 1866) was an American politician and businessman. He served as the fifth Mayor of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from 1828 to 1830.

Born in England, Bakewell immigrated to the United States and became a prominent merchant and iron manufacturer in Pittsburgh. He was heavily involved in the city's burgeoning industrial development. Prior to serving as mayor, he held other civic positions, demonstrating his commitment to public service.

As mayor, Bakewell focused on infrastructure improvements, fiscal responsibility, and promoting the city's economic growth.
