Walter Sweeney (politician)

Walter Sweeney (born January 19, 1949) is an American politician from Maine. Sweeney served as a Republican State Senator representing District 9, which included his hometown of South Thomaston as well as parts of Knox County. He was first elected to the Maine Senate in 2010 and re-elected in 2012.

Prior to his service in the Senate, Sweeney served for three terms in the Maine House of Representatives, representing District 51, starting in 2004.

During his time in the Maine Legislature, Sweeney served on various committees, including the Marine Resources Committee. He also worked on legislation related to property taxes and economic development.

Sweeney did not seek re-election to the Maine Senate in 2014. He is a businessman, owning and operating Sweeney Marine Corporation.
