WWF Raw (2002 video game)
WWF Raw, also known as WWE Raw in later releases, is a professional wrestling video game released in 2002 for the Xbox and Microsoft Windows. Developed by Anchor Inc. and published by THQ, it was the first WWF/WWE game released on the Xbox console. The game features a roster of popular WWF (World Wrestling Federation, later WWE) wrestlers from the era, allowing players to compete in various match types including singles, tag team, and hardcore matches.
The gameplay focuses on wrestling action, with players executing moves, reversals, and grapples to wear down their opponents. Signature moves and finishing maneuvers specific to each wrestler are also included. A key feature of the game is the ability to perform moves outside the ring and utilize weapons found under the ring to gain an advantage.
WWF Raw received mixed reviews upon release. Critics praised the graphics and presentation for their time, but often criticized the gameplay mechanics as being clunky and unresponsive. The limited number of wrestlers available compared to previous wrestling games was also a common point of criticism. The game was followed by a sequel, WWE Raw 2, released in 2003.
