Volta (Cirque du Soleil)

Volta is a Cirque du Soleil touring show that premiered in Montreal, Canada in April 2017. It is written and directed by Bastien Alexandre and Jean-François Bouchard. The show's narrative focuses on Waz, a gameshow contestant seeking freedom after feeling different and misunderstood. Through his journey, he connects with a group of free-spirited individuals who inspire him to embrace his true self.

The show is characterized by its urban, modern aesthetic and high-energy performances. It incorporates elements of extreme sports, including BMX, parkour, and rope skipping, alongside traditional circus acts like acrobatics, aerial silks, and unicycle. The music, composed by Anthony Gonzalez from the electronic band M83, features a blend of electronic and cinematic soundscapes.

Volta explores themes of self-acceptance, individuality, and the power of connection. The set design often incorporates projection mapping to create dynamic and immersive environments. The costumes are vibrant and contemporary, reflecting the show's overall urban influence. After touring North America and Europe, Volta completed its final performance in March 2020.
