Void (film)
Void is a 2016 Canadian horror film written and directed by Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie. It is a practical effects-driven horror film paying homage to the works of John Carpenter, Lucio Fulci, and Clive Barker.
The film follows a police officer named Daniel Carter who discovers a patient in a hospital hallway, setting off a chain of terrifying and otherworldly events. He and the remaining staff and patients find themselves trapped in the hospital as mysterious hooded figures surround the building. Inside, they confront monstrous creatures and unravel a conspiracy involving a malevolent cult seeking to open a gateway to another dimension.
Void is notable for its extensive use of practical effects, eschewing CGI in favor of makeup, prosthetics, and animatronics to create its grotesque and unsettling visuals. The film received generally positive reviews, with critics praising its commitment to practical effects, its intense atmosphere, and its nods to classic horror films. However, some criticized its occasionally convoluted plot and pacing.
