Simulant (film)

Simulant is a 2023 Canadian science fiction thriller film directed by April Mullen and starring Robbie Amell, Jordana Brewster, Simu Liu, and Sam Worthington.

The film centers around Faye (Brewster) who, grieving the loss of her husband Evan, enlists the help of a company to create a Simulant (Amell) – a life-like android replica. The Simulant is intended to replicate Evan and ease Faye's pain. However, this Simulant begins to develop feelings and memories beyond its programming, and seeks to become more human.

Meanwhile, Kessler (Worthington), a government agent dedicated to eliminating rogue Simulants, begins hunting the Evan Simulant, posing a threat to Faye and the Simulant's burgeoning existence. The film explores themes of artificial intelligence, grief, identity, and the ethical implications of advanced technology. Simu Liu plays Casey, a tech expert involved in the Simulant creation process. The narrative follows the complexities that arise as the Simulant evolves and challenges the boundaries between human and artificial life.
