Vladimir Ponomaryov (footballer, born 1940)
Vladimir Nikolayevich Ponomaryov (Russian: Владимир Николаевич Пономарёв; born 18 February 1940) is a Soviet and Russian former footballer and coach. He played as a defender.
Playing Career
Ponomaryov spent the majority of his playing career with FC Torpedo Moscow, where he played from 1960 to 1969. He was a member of the Torpedo squad that won the Soviet Top League championship in 1960 and the Soviet Cup in 1968. He also played for FC Shakhtyor Karaganda.
Ponomaryov was a key member of the Soviet Union national team. He earned 25 caps and participated in the 1966 FIFA World Cup, where the Soviet Union reached the semi-finals. He also played in the 1964 European Nations' Cup, where the Soviet Union finished as runners-up.
Coaching Career
After retiring from playing, Ponomaryov embarked on a coaching career. He managed several clubs in the Soviet Union and Russia, including FC Torpedo Moscow, FC Asmaral Moscow, and FC Dynamo Moscow. He also coached the Russian Olympic team.
