Cavalier (N&W train)
The Cavalier was a passenger train operated by the Norfolk and Western Railway (N&W). It primarily served as a daytime train connecting Norfolk, Virginia, and Cincinnati, Ohio, via Roanoke, Virginia.
The train offered coach and Pullman sleeping car service, catering to both short-distance and longer-distance travelers. It was a key component of the N&W's passenger operations, providing a vital transportation link across its network.
The Cavalier's routing followed a significant portion of the N&W's main line, traversing through the Appalachian Mountains. The train provided passengers with scenic views of the region.
As with many passenger trains in the mid-20th century, the Cavalier faced declining ridership due to the rise of automobiles and air travel. The Norfolk and Western Railway eventually discontinued passenger service, including the Cavalier, in the late 1960s.
