John Smith (American wrestler)
John Smith (born August 9, 1965) is an American Olympic wrestler and coach. He is considered one of the greatest freestyle wrestlers of all time. He is the first American wrestler to win two Olympic gold medals (1988 and 1992) and a four-time World Champion (1987, 1989, 1990, and 1991).
Smith wrestled collegiately for Oklahoma State University, where he was a two-time NCAA champion (1987 and 1988) and a four-time All-American. He completed his collegiate career with a record of 152-8-2.
Following his competitive career, Smith became the head wrestling coach at Oklahoma State University in 1991. Under his leadership, the Cowboys have won five NCAA team championships (1994, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006) and have consistently been one of the top wrestling programs in the nation. He has been recognized as the National Wrestling Coach of the Year multiple times.
Smith is a member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the United States Olympic Hall of Fame. He is known for his aggressive wrestling style and his dedication to the sport. His contributions to wrestling have cemented his legacy as a legend.
