Under the Mountain (film)

Under the Mountain is a 2009 New Zealand science fiction horror film directed by Jonathan King. It is based on the 1979 novel of the same name by Maurice Gee. The film follows twins Rachel and Theo Matheson (played by Sophie McBride and Tom Cameron) who move to Auckland, New Zealand, and discover they are descendants of a race of people who can destroy the Wilberforces, shapeshifting creatures disguised as humans seeking to conquer the world.

The Wilberforces, led by the menacing Mr. Jones (played by Sam Neill), are ancient and powerful beings that dwell in the volcanic tunnels under Auckland's iconic Rangitoto Island and Lake Pupuke. The twins, with the help of the mysterious Mr. Wilberforce (Oliver Driver), must learn to harness their latent abilities and work together to stop the Wilberforces from unleashing their evil upon humanity.

The film is known for its use of CGI to create the monstrous forms of the Wilberforces, which are depicted as slimy, grotesque creatures.
