Alex Gard
Alex Gard (1898-1948) was a Russian-American caricaturist known for his work at Sardi's restaurant in New York City. Born Alexei Kremnev in Russia, he emigrated to the United States in the early 1920s. Gard's caricatures of Broadway celebrities adorned the walls of Sardi's, becoming a defining feature of the restaurant's ambiance and a coveted honor for actors and performers to be included. His distinctive style, characterized by exaggerated features and bold lines, captured the personalities of his subjects. Over his career, Gard created hundreds of caricatures, many of which remain on display at Sardi's. He died at the age of 49, leaving behind a significant legacy in the world of caricature and Broadway history.
