John Flannery (baseball)
John Flannery (born January 17, 1958, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey) is a former Major League Baseball infielder. He played parts of four seasons in MLB, from 1979 to 1982, for the San Diego Padres.
Flannery was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 6th round of the 1979 MLB January Draft-Regular Phase from the University of Arizona. Primarily a utility infielder, he played second base, third base, and shortstop during his time with the Padres.
Following his playing career, Flannery became a minor league manager and coach within the Padres organization. He also worked as a roving infield instructor for the Padres. He is known for his contributions to player development and for his engaging and enthusiastic personality. He is the older brother of Tim Flannery, another former MLB player and coach.
