USS Wyoming (SSBN-742)

The USS Wyoming (SSBN-742) is an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine of the United States Navy. She is the 17th submarine of her class and the fourth ship to bear the name Wyoming.

Construction of the USS Wyoming was contracted to Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut, on 13 February 1989, and her keel was laid down on 8 August 1991. She was launched on 15 September 1995, sponsored by Mrs. A. James Watkins, and commissioned on 13 July 1996 at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base.

The USS Wyoming carries the Trident II D5 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM). She operates as part of the United States Navy's strategic deterrence force. The submarine has two alternating crews, a Blue crew and a Gold crew, which alternate manning and operating the vessel. This practice maximizes the submarine's time on patrol.

The USS Wyoming has undergone several periods of maintenance and upgrades throughout her service life to ensure operational readiness and the continued effectiveness of her weapons systems. Her homeport is Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia.
