USS Shreveport (PF-23)

The USS Shreveport (PF-23) was a United States Navy Tacoma-class patrol frigate in commission from 1944 to 1945. During World War II, she served in the Pacific Theater.

Shreveport was laid down as BDE-23 on 25 August 1943 under a Maritime Commission contract by Walter Butler Shipbuilders, Inc., in Superior, Wisconsin. She was reclassified as PF-23 on 15 April 1943, launched on 25 November 1943, sponsored by Mrs. J. R. Brown, and commissioned on 27 September 1944, with Lieutenant Commander William W. Virden, USCG, in command.

After shakedown, Shreveport sailed to the Pacific and arrived at Hollandia, New Guinea, on 15 January 1945. She escorted convoys between New Guinea and the Philippines, and later escorted ships between Leyte and Mindoro. In April 1945, she participated in operations in support of the liberation of the Philippines.

Shreveport continued her escort duty until the end of World War II. Following the cessation of hostilities, she remained in the Pacific for a brief period.

She was decommissioned on 22 October 1945 and struck from the Navy List on 13 November 1945. She was subsequently sold for scrapping.
