USS Maumee (ID-1339)
The USS Maumee (ID-1339) was a United States Navy collier in commission from 1918 to 1919. She was named after the Maumee River.
Prior to her naval service, the ship was built in 1907 as the SS Maumee for the Great Lakes Towing Company. She was a large, relatively modern collier, capable of carrying significant quantities of coal. The exact specifications of her tonnage and dimensions are not readily available in open sources.
During World War I, the US Navy requisitioned the Maumee for wartime service. She was commissioned into the Navy on 26 April 1918 and assigned the identification number ID-1339. Her primary role was the vital task of supplying coal to the fleet. This involved transporting coal from various ports to naval bases and ships at sea.
Following the Armistice, the Maumee was returned to her civilian owners. She was decommissioned on 10 February 1919. Her post-war service and ultimate fate are currently undocumented in readily accessible historical records. Further research is needed to ascertain the complete history of the vessel after her Navy service.
