Sögel (Samtgemeinde)
The Samtgemeinde Sögel is a collective municipality (German: Samtgemeinde) in the Emsland district of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is located approximately 25 km southwest of Papenburg and encompasses the following constituent municipalities: Börger, Groß Berßen, Hüven, Klein Berßen, Sögel, Spahnharrenstätte, and Stavern. The administrative seat of the Samtgemeinde is located in the municipality of Sögel.
A Samtgemeinde is a type of administrative division in Lower Saxony (and some other German states) where several smaller municipalities pool their administrative resources while retaining a degree of autonomy. The Samtgemeinde Sögel therefore handles certain administrative tasks for its member municipalities, allowing them to focus on local issues.
The area is primarily rural, characterized by agriculture and forestry. The Samtgemeinde Sögel is also known for the Schloss Clemenswerth, a baroque hunting lodge located in the municipality of Sögel. The lodge is a significant cultural and historical landmark in the Emsland region.
