USS Kineo
The USS Kineo was a Unadilla-class gunboat built for the United States Navy during the American Civil War. She was named for Mount Kineo, a prominent geological feature on Moosehead Lake in Maine.
Kineo served primarily in the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron, participating in numerous engagements and operations aimed at suppressing Confederate commerce and enforcing the Union blockade. Her duties included patrolling waterways, capturing blockade runners, and providing support to land forces.
Notable actions involving the USS Kineo include engagements near Charleston, South Carolina, and along the coasts of Georgia and Florida. She played a role in the capture of several Confederate vessels attempting to break the blockade.
After the Civil War, Kineo remained in service with the Navy for a period, undertaking various duties along the East Coast of the United States. She was eventually decommissioned and sold into private hands.
