Typhoon Nelson (1982)

Typhoon Nelson was a tropical cyclone that impacted the Philippines, Hong Kong, and southern China in August 1982. It formed in the western Pacific Ocean and intensified as it moved westward, eventually reaching typhoon strength.

Nelson brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to the Philippines, causing flooding and damage to infrastructure. Several deaths were reported in the archipelago.

After crossing the Philippines, Nelson continued westward towards Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Observatory issued typhoon signals, and preparations were made for the storm's arrival. Nelson passed south of Hong Kong, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to the territory. Disruption to transportation and business activities occurred.

The typhoon ultimately made landfall in southern China. It weakened as it moved inland, but still produced significant rainfall and flooding in the region. Damage to agriculture and property was reported. Nelson's impact was considerable, leading to loss of life and economic disruption across the affected areas. While not one of the strongest typhoons on record, its wide track and impact on multiple populated areas made it a notable event in the 1982 Pacific typhoon season.
