Turek County (historical)

Turek County was a historical administrative division (powiat) of Poland, located within the Kalisz Governorate of Congress Poland, and later part of interwar Poland. Its capital was the town of Turek.

Established during the period of Russian control after the partitions of Poland, Turek County existed until administrative reforms in the late 20th century. The boundaries and administrative affiliations of the county shifted throughout its history as Poland's borders and internal divisions changed.

The county's economy was primarily agricultural, with some light industry developing in the 20th century. The population was largely Polish, with smaller numbers of Jewish and German inhabitants in certain periods. Historical records pertaining to Turek County are valuable for researchers studying the social, economic, and political history of the region and Poland as a whole. The archives and historical societies within and around the Turek region hold documents that provide insights into the daily life, local government, and major events that shaped the area. Following World War II, the area remained part of Poland, and the administrative structure continued to evolve, with the historical Turek County being replaced by modern administrative divisions.
