Connacht–Ulster (European Parliament constituency)
The Connacht–Ulster constituency was a constituency used to elect Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to represent Ireland in the European Parliament. It was one of three constituencies used in Ireland before the 2020 European Parliament election. The constituency comprised the provinces of Connacht and Ulster, but only the counties of Ireland within Ulster (specifically, County Cavan, County Donegal, County Leitrim, County Monaghan and County Sligo). It was a multi-member constituency, electing three or four MEPs depending on the size of the European Parliament at the time.
The constituency was abolished following the 2019 European Parliament election in a redrawing of Irish constituencies to reflect changes to Ireland's representation in the European Parliament following Brexit. The regions that comprised the Connacht–Ulster constituency were subsequently divided among other constituencies. The abolition of this constituency was part of a broader reform to align Irish representation with the reduced size of the European Parliament following the departure of the United Kingdom. The specific counties previously covered were redistributed to different constituencies for subsequent European Parliament elections. Further details about the specific redistribution are available from official sources on Irish electoral boundaries.
