Tufahije
Tufahije is a Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian dessert made from walnuts-stuffed apples poached in sugar syrup. The apples are typically peeled, cored, and then filled with a mixture of ground walnuts, sugar, and sometimes milk or cream. After being poached until tender, the apples are often served chilled, topped with whipped cream, and drizzled with the remaining syrup. Tufahije is a popular dessert in the Balkan region, particularly during festive occasions. The name "Tufahije" is derived from the Arabic word "tuffāḥ," meaning apple. The dessert is believed to have been introduced to the region during Ottoman rule. Variations exist, with some recipes including raisins or other dried fruits in the walnut filling.
