Lomovoy
A Lomovoy is a malevolent, restless spirit in Slavic folklore, similar to a poltergeist. Unlike some household spirits who can be benevolent, the Lomovoy is almost always considered harmful and disruptive. It is believed to be a spirit of the dead who died a bad death, or a sorcerer who failed to repent.
Lomovoys are associated with the home and are believed to inhabit areas like attics, cellars, empty rooms, or even the area under the doorstep. They are known for their disruptive and unsettling activities, which can range from subtle noises and moving objects to more violent manifestations. These activities are thought to be indicative of the Lomovoy's displeasure or desire to cause chaos. Common signs of a Lomovoy's presence include unexplained noises (knocking, scratching, wailing), the feeling of being watched, objects moving on their own, sudden drops in temperature, and feelings of unease or fear.
Attempts to appease or expel a Lomovoy vary depending on the specific tradition, but often involve religious rituals, prayers, or seeking the assistance of a local wise woman or priest. In some traditions, the Lomovoy can only be expelled from the house by someone with strong spiritual power or by completely dismantling and rebuilding the dwelling.
