Tropico 3

Tropico 3 is a city-building and political simulation game developed by Haemimont Games and published by Kalypso Media. Released in 2009, it is the third installment in the Tropico series, following Tropico and Tropico 2: Pirate Cove.

The game places the player in the role of "El Presidente," the dictator of a Caribbean island nation during the Cold War era. The player's primary objective is to maintain their rule and develop the island's economy while balancing the needs of various factions, including communists, capitalists, intellectuals, militarists, religious groups, and environmentalists, each with their own demands and preferences.

Gameplay involves constructing and managing buildings, including housing, industry, infrastructure, and entertainment venues. Players must oversee resource production, trade, and employment. Furthermore, El Presidente can issue edicts and speeches to influence the population and maintain power, as well as conduct foreign relations with the United States and the Soviet Union to secure aid and trade agreements.

Tropico 3 features both a campaign mode with pre-designed scenarios and a sandbox mode allowing for free-form island management with customizable settings. Success depends on a combination of economic development, political maneuvering, and maintaining the approval of the populace or, alternatively, brutally suppressing dissent to remain in power. The game is known for its satirical tone and humorous portrayal of dictatorship.
