Hiroshi Yamamoto (shogi)

Hiroshi Yamamoto (山本 博志, Yamamoto Hiroshi, born January 15, 1950) is a Japanese professional shogi player, ranked 8-dan.

Yamamoto turned professional in 1968 and was promoted to 8-dan in 1988. He is known for his expertise in Static Rook openings. He reached the final of the 38th NHK Cup in 1988, losing to Yoshiharu Habu. While not winning any major titles, he remained a competitive player for many years and is still active in senior tournaments. His pupils include professional shogi players such as Jun Ishikawa.
