Tropical Depression Amang (2019)
Tropical Depression Amang was a weak and short-lived tropical cyclone that affected the Philippines in January 2019. It was the first tropical cyclone of the 2019 Pacific typhoon season. Amang originated from a low-pressure area east of Mindanao and gradually intensified into a tropical depression. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) officially designated it as a tropical depression, while the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) named it Amang.
The depression made landfall over Palanan, Isabela in the Philippines. It brought heavy rainfall and gusty winds to parts of Luzon, particularly in the eastern regions. This resulted in flooding and landslides in several areas, disrupting transportation and displacing residents.
Amang quickly weakened after landfall due to interaction with land and unfavorable atmospheric conditions. It dissipated over land shortly after entering mainland Luzon, and PAGASA issued its final advisory on the system. Despite its weakness, Amang caused some damage and disruption due to heavy rainfall, primarily affecting agriculture and infrastructure in the areas it impacted. No fatalities were directly attributed to the storm.
