Darondo
Darondo Pulliam (1946 – 2009) was an American R&B and soul singer from San Francisco, California. He is best known for his smooth, seductive baritone voice and his self-produced recordings from the 1970s.
Darondo's musical career gained momentum after the rediscovery of his songs "I'm Alone" and "Didn't I" in the early 2000s. These tracks, recorded in San Francisco during the 1970s, found a new audience after being featured on compilations and radio stations specializing in rare soul and funk.
While not achieving mainstream commercial success during his active recording period, Darondo's music developed a cult following decades later. His sound is characterized by its soulful melodies, heartfelt lyrics often centered on love and longing, and the raw, intimate production quality of his independent recordings.
Beyond his music, Darondo also worked as a medical therapist and often incorporated unconventional methods into his practice, reflecting his unique and charismatic personality. He maintained a low profile for many years before his musical rediscovery brought him international recognition.
Darondo's late-career resurgence led to tours and festival appearances, introducing his music to a new generation of listeners. He passed away in 2009, leaving behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to be appreciated and discovered by fans worldwide.
