Toshi (musician)

Toshi (born Toshimitsu Deyama on October 10, 1965, in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, Japan) is a Japanese rock singer and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist for the heavy metal/rock band X Japan, one of the most successful and influential bands in Japanese history.

Toshi co-founded X Japan with Yoshiki Hayashi in 1982 and remained with the band until their breakup in 1997. During this period, X Japan achieved significant mainstream success, selling millions of albums and performing sold-out concerts at venues such as Tokyo Dome. Toshi's powerful vocals and emotional delivery were a key component of X Japan's signature sound.

Following X Japan's disbandment, Toshi embarked on a solo career, exploring different musical styles, including acoustic and pop. He also became involved in activities related to self-help and spiritual development, associating himself with the organization Home of Heart. This association led to controversies and financial difficulties for Toshi.

X Japan reunited in 2007 and Toshi rejoined the band, performing in concerts around the world and contributing to new recordings. He has continued to pursue both his activities with X Japan and his solo career. His discography includes numerous solo albums and singles, in addition to his extensive work with X Japan.

Despite periods of controversy and personal challenges, Toshi remains a prominent figure in Japanese rock music, recognized for his vocal talent and his contributions to X Japan's lasting legacy.
