Tom Gray (activist)
Tom Gray is an American political activist and writer focused on cannabis legalization and ending the war on drugs. He is known for his work as the National Coordinator of the National Coalition for Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) from 1996 to 2000.
During his tenure at NORML, Gray spearheaded efforts to reform state and federal marijuana laws, advocating for medical marijuana, decriminalization, and eventual legalization. He frequently testified before legislative bodies and appeared in the media to promote the organization's goals.
Following his departure from NORML, Gray continued his activism through writing and public speaking. He has contributed articles and op-eds to various publications, advocating for a more rational and humane drug policy. He is a proponent of harm reduction strategies and believes that the criminalization of drug use has caused significant social and economic damage.
Gray's advocacy often emphasizes the racial disparities in drug enforcement and the disproportionate impact of the war on drugs on minority communities. He argues for a more equitable and just approach to drug policy that prioritizes public health and safety over punitive measures. He remains a vocal critic of the current legal status of marijuana at the federal level and continues to advocate for its full legalization.
