Tom Cross (film editor)

Tom Cross is an American film editor best known for his collaborations with director Damien Chazelle. He won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for his work on Chazelle's 2014 film, Whiplash.

Cross's editing style is characterized by its dynamic rhythm, precise cuts, and ability to build tension and excitement. He often uses fast cutting and close-ups to create a sense of urgency and intimacy with the characters. His work is also notable for its integration of music and sound design, which often plays a crucial role in shaping the emotional impact of the scenes.

Beyond Whiplash, Cross has edited several other notable films, including Chazelle's La La Land (2016), for which he received his second Academy Award nomination, and First Man (2018). Other notable works include Hostiles (2017), The Greatest Showman (2017), Creed (2015), and No Time to Die (2021). He has also worked on television projects such as the miniseries Maniac (2018).

Cross is a graduate of the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.
